Hospitalized

I finally found a bit of time to update on the past crazy week. I believe my last real update was last Thursday after I had taken Ryker to the Peds and been told he had a virus. As the daya continued so did his fever. I kept alternating Tylenol and IB profin and his fever remained. I have started an exercise program and have been working out on Mon, Tues, and Thursdays. I went to the gym as usual and when I returned Ryker seemed to have gotten worse. I sat up with him for an hour or so and noticed his face was starting to swell. An hour or so passed and his swelling was getting worse. I called his pediatrician (thank goodness for all night pediatricians), to see if the swelling was from having stitches or something I should be worried about. They told me that this was not normal and to take him to the ER. I took him to the ER and by the time we got there his face had gotten worse. His poor little eyes were almost swollen shut. They admitted him into the hospital right away, took his stitches out to start draining his infection and put him on IV anti-biotic. I stayed with him during his hospital stay and each day he improved. The Doctors were worried when his infection moved from his forehead area down his face and under his eyes. They kept him another day to make sure it wasn't moving around and that he really was getting better. Rykie and I had a few days of hospital time together. We put together lego's, played hangman, watched movies, video games, coloring, and chatted about anything we could think of. Ryker was very bored for the most part. He didn't like being stuck in bed and stuck with an IV in his arm. He did however love all of the attention, visitors and gifts. Mostly he enjoyed the gifts. We had lot's of visitors and really appreciate everyone coming to see him. It also helped the time go by much faster.
On Sunday the Doctor did her rounds and said we would be there until Monday. She came back on Sunday night to check on him and he had improved that much during the day that he was able to come home. He was released from the hospital on Sunday evening with oral anti-biotic to take at home. He went to school on Monday as usual and started quickly getting back to his old self. He is doing much better now. He will have some scaring on his face because they had to take his stitches out in the ER. I am going to do my best to get mederma and minimize it as much as possible. I am just so happy he's back home and doing well. I still can not believe that all this happened because of our sweet cat. It was just a crazy, unlucky thing to happen. The dog and cats are getting along just fine now.
After Ryker came home on Sunday night, he begged to go to school on Monday. I emailed his teacher to watch over him and let him go. I figured it was probably a good thing to get back to our routine. Well at least for a day. On Tuesday Britt had surgery on his left arm. They did a carpal tunnel release and moved some extra muscle build up he had in his hand. Britts surgery was a lot easier on him this time around with no hospital stay. We all got up early and Britt's mom watched the kids for us. Britt was in and out in a few hours and has been resting up at home today. He is in pain but doing ok and keeping up on his pain meds. It's been one of those weeks for certain. I'm glad it's over with. I was hesitant to share photos I took on my phone because I don't like seeing Rykie all swollen. But now that he is doing better it's somehow easier. I suppose this will be something we will look back on and tell him about someday. Knowing him he will want to see photos. So here are a few photos I took on my cell phone of Rykie in the hospital and one of Britty to. I didn't get one the night we went in so these were taken a few days after when his face had gotten a bit better.

This is day two I believe. You can see he was still swollen all over his forehead area and down but notice he is not swollen  under his eyes.

The next day he looked better but he was now swollen under his eyes. They kept him another day to make sure it was going away and not moving around.

Britty just before his surgery.
